Taylor Swift’s VMAs Outfit: a Hint Towards Reputation TV?

Taylor Swift attended the VMAs as the most-nominated artist, who’s surprised? No one, but everyone is surprised by her outfit that she showed up in. Swift stepped out onto the red carpet in a black dress with gold embellishments paired with a bundle of gold chains. She strayed away from her recent light blue and signature red lip. All the Swifties can’t help but wonder, is this an easter egg for a soon-to-be Reputation (Taylor’s Version) announcement?

In relation to this course, this utilizes strategy and a specific audience. While we don’t know for sure yet whether or not this is an easter egg, Swifties are always skeptical of everything she does. This is because Taylor Swift is truly a mastermind, putting in the tiniest details into everything that normal people wouldn’t even consider looking into.

If I was on Taylor’s PR team, I’d absolutely be using this as an easter egg for Reputation TV. Fans lately have been looking for crucial details that have all been pointing to Reputation TV, patiently awaiting for it after the announcement of 1989 TV. The black and gold look differed from her latest looks of light blue, which have all been a result of 1989 TV.

Aside from utilizing this outfit as an easter egg for Reputation TV, I believe it was incredible choice given her past experience at the VMAs. Those who have been following Swift for years remember all too well when Kanye interrupted her speech saying “Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time” back in 2009.  This event inspired her to write Reputation in the first place, so given her past with the VMAs, I think this was a great outfit choice to symbolize that. I would say this is a positive story, as everyone is wondering what her next move is.

As I mentioned, Taylor is all about the details. One final detail from the night that had us all on the edge of our seats occurred during her acceptance speech. Taylor used the term “slithering” implying a snake. Fans went crazy over this as snakes are incorporated throughout many of her Reputation videos. This was an incredible PR move, planned or not, however knowing Taylor Swift everything is always strategized. I am not sure there is much I would change here, as all of these little details are getting her fanbase incredibly excited and building so much buzz around her (hopefully) next re-record. I will absolutely be keeping my eye out for what she does next.
