Penn State THON™

THON™ is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. THON's mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness, and ensure funding for critical research—all in pursuit of a cure. The yearlong fundraising efforts culminate in a 46 hour no-sitting no-sleeping dance marathon. My 4 years as a THON Volunteer taught me the importance of philanthropy, to always move with gratitude, and was overall the best part of my Penn State experience. Below are the positions I was fortunate to have and the impact I was able to make on the THON Community through these roles.

THON 2025

Family Relations Captain - Family Events Coordinator, Explorers Coordinator

Utilize social media for awareness and fundraising efforts
As the Family Events Coordinator, plan and execute family events at Pre-THON Weekend activities to provide memorable experiences and boost family involvement.
As the Explorers Coordinator, work alongside Penn State groups and local State College organizations, such as Penn State Football and Centre County PAWS, to coordinate 15 different events families can attend during THON Weekend to give them an unforgettable afternoon of fun and make new connections within our community.
Work alongside 24 captains to provide direct emotional support to Four Diamonds Families and facilitate connections between families and the Penn State THON Community.

THON 2024

Dancer Relations Captain - THON Weekend Development

Utilize social media for awareness and fundraising efforts
Assist in the coordination of all aspects of the dancer experience
Serve as a primary student liaison to provide emotional and physical support to the 700+ dancers chosen to dance in THON Weekend
Lead a committee of 28 members to ensure the health, safety, and happiness of dancers by teaching skills in situational awareness, medical issue recognition, and injury therapy through weekly meetings
Coordinate stimulating alternative events throughout THON Weekend such as THON Salon, Recharge Hours, Candlelight Vigil, and Playground to assist dancers throughout the 46 hours.

Second-in-command to Dancer Relations Captain, assist in weekly meetings and facilitating team bonding
Ensure the health, safety, and happiness of dancers by learning skills in situational awareness, medical issue recognition, and injury therapy through weekly powerpoints and presentations
Serve as a point of communication to fellow committee members throughout THON Weekend
